Quick Start Guide: Transfer and De-identify Files

Once you have set the configuration options, click “Save and Continue” to start selecting and transferring files. The Trial Wire Java applet will now load.

If you are using Trial Wire for the first time on your computer this may take a few minutes. If at this point you see a blank screen your browser may not be java enabled. Please follow instructions on Java Test page.

5 Steps to De-identifying, Sorting and Transferring your DICOM Files

Step 1: DICOM Directory Selection

Find the data you want to transfer. The default directory is your CD/DVD drive. You can select a directory at any level and Trial Wire will detect all DICOM files in that directory.

For example, selecting your C drive on a Windows machine will search the entire hard disk for DICOM files and will take a considerable time to complete the search.

If you know where your data is, the most efficient option is to select only that folder.

Click “continue” to start the search

Step 2: DICOM File Selection

Trial Wire will display all DICOM files found in your selected directory. You can click “cancel” at any time to stop the search. Files are displayed in a subject/study/series hierarchy and you have the option here to select anything by ticking the boxes, from multiple examinations to a single series.

Step 3: DICOM Files De-identification

At this stage Trial Wire will either:
  • Automatically change the DICOM fields to de-identified or
  • Allow you to manually change any field highlighted in RED by clicking on the text.  You have the option of adding a reason for change comment here if you wish. This comment is stored in the Audit Trail but not in the DICOM file itself.

Step 4: Audit Trail report

If you would like to print a record of the transfer and the de-identified fields with their original values for your records you can do that here. Alternatively, review the files to transfer and any modification to be made prior to transfer.

Clicking “Transfer” will start the transfer process.

Step 5: Transfer Files

If you have selected an FTP transfer you will be prompted for the username and password at this stage.  All changes to the DICOM files will only be made at this time.

The progress of the transfer is shown. This step may take some time as it is dependent on the size of file and quality of connection. Your files will now appear in the destination directory you selected earlier.

Any errors in connection will be displayed in this window, if transfer has failed because you have entered the incorrect details, click on “Start Transfer” to re-enter the details here.

Upon completion you can go back to the start to transfer more files or Logout.
